2007 Tony Winner Murphy Cross Readies 2 New Shows for Enrichment Works

Cross and her WetRock Entertainment partner Paul Kreppel, both members of the Enrichment Works Board, received the 2007 Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event for their production of “Jay Johnson: The Two and Only” at an awards ceremony at Radio City Musical Hall in May.

Now Cross is directing and choreographing “The Money Mon$ter,” an original musical with a score by Norman L. Berman and book and lyrics by Abraham Tetenbaum. Two companies will perform the show, which takes the fear out of personal finance for students in grades 3-8. Broadway veteran Michael A. Shepperd and Robin Hudson are in one company, soon-to-be-married James Hobert and Danielle Vernengo, the other. The production has been made possible by a grant from the Citigroup Smith Barney Community Investment Program.

Cross is also staging Jane Carpenter’s original play, “Miss Mitchell’s Comet,” starring Amy Honey as the 19th Century American astronomer and William Salyers as her Quaker father. This assembly program makes it clear that science is not the exclusive domain of men and is recommended for students in grades 4-8.

“We are so fortunate to have Tony caliber artists like Murphy Cross directing and appearing in our shows,” said Enrichment Works Founder and Executive Director Abraham Tetenbaum. “This organization is committed to artistic excellence, which means bringing the very best talent to our young audiences – and that’s Murphy.”
